Kirsten Waltz, Steffian Bradley Artchitects’ President of U.S. Operations, has been elected to the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health, Academy Board starting January 2018. The announcement was made at the 2017 Summer Leadership Summit in Chicago hosted by the American College of Healthcare Architect (ACHA) and the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH). Fuss & O'Neill has acquired CLD Consulting Engineers, Inc. CLD will bring their expertise in highway and bridge design, traffic/transportation services, municipal engineering and private development to add to Fuss & O’Neill’s 90+ years of land development, traffic/transportation, water resources, environmental services and facilities engineering. Producing a company of nearly 350 engineers, scientists and planners, in 11 offices, the acquisition will establish Fuss & O’Neill as a New England leader of civil and environmental engineering services. The two companies will combine business operations in the coming year.

George Perham, a principal of Antinozzi Associates, breaks ground at Stratford High School’s $125-million renovation. The 1970 graduate of Stratford High School says this was one of the most special groundbreakings he has experienced. The new 236,000sf addition and renovation will create a state-of-the-art school for faculty and students and is slated for completion in 2020. Please visit this link for the full article.

Elizabeth K. Wright of Robinson+Cole has been recognized by Engineering News-Record (ENR) New England as a “Top Young Professional." ENR New England, a weekly publication that provides construction news and information to industry professionals worldwide, recognized Ms. Wright in its annual class of “Top Young Professionals” for 2017. Ms. Wright handles all aspects of construction-related contract issues and litigation. She brings a strong resolution and problem solving focus to her practice due to her education and experience as a mediator. In addition to her practice, Ms. Wright serves on the board of directors and as co-chair of the programs committee for the Connecticut chapter of Professional Women in Construction, and on the membership committee of CREW-Boston. She also participates in a pro bono program sponsored by the Massachusetts Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, in which she represents victims of domestic violence seeking restraining orders. Ms. Wright was one of just nine construction industry professionals from across New England to receive the recognition, which was given for "leadership, industry work and community service." The honorees are profiled in the July 24, 2017, edition of Engineering News-Record New England.

TRADE CONTRACTORS NEEDED: Hartford Housing Authority and their partners present Willow Creek - Phase 2 Rental on 7/27/17 from 5:30-7PM at the CI Office (260 Girard Ave, Hartford, CT). Construction of Willow Creek- Phase 2 community in Hartford, CT consists of the new construction of 43 units of housing in 11 wood-framed buildings totaling approximately 58,000SF. Robinson+Cole lawyers Gregory R. Faulkner and Dennis C. Cavanaugh have accepted fellowships with the Construction Lawyers Society of America (CLSA.) Mr. Faulkner is chair and Mr. Cavanaugh is a member of Robinson+Cole’s Construction Group. CLSA is an invitation-only construction lawyer honorary society with membership limited to 1,200 practicing Fellows from the United States and internationally. Fellows are selected and invited into Fellowship after being evaluated for effectiveness and accomplishment in construction law, along with ethical reputation.


Arcadis has released its seventh annual Global Construction Disputes Report 2017, “Avoiding the Same Pitfalls." The report reveals the average value of construction disputes in North America was lower than in most parts of the world in 2016. This report, conducted annually by Arcadis, the leading global design and consultancy firm for natural and built assets, provides insight into the causes, duration and value of construction disputes while highlighting the best ways to avoid, mitigate and resolve them. Diversity Construction Group President James A. Keaney, Jr. has been invited to speak at the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) National Legislative Week: Diversity & Inclusion Summit from June 19 to June 20, 2017. Keaney conveyed, “I am excited to share our passions and values that have led us, our partners and subcontractors to promoting diversity and inclusion in our industry. BVH Integrated Services, P.C., announces that Steven Haines has joined the organization as Director of Technical Operations. In this newly created position at BVH, Steve will take a leadership role in the firm’s information technology and related practice areas, forming the foundation for the firm’s ability to work effectively, communicate ideas, and produce quality project documentation. Steve previously served as Managing Director of Centerbrook Architects and Planners, where he was responsible for the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure excellence in design and business practices. In addition to his extensive experience in the areas of firm management, staff development, technology, and marketing, Steve is a frequent lecturer, speaker, and advisor on a variety of industry-related topics. His audiences have included Autodesk Executive Forum, Association of Physical Plant Administrators, Connecticut Building Congress, Construction Institute at the University of Hartford, AIA Pittsburgh, Society for Marketing Professional Services, and University of Connecticut.


Construction Solutions Group has announced the promotion of Roger LaFleur to Chief Operating Officer and Christopher Cykley to Vice President. The promotions are the result of an increasing workload, which includes recently awarded contracts for multi-year program management services. In his new role, Roger will manage internal company operations. As Vice President, Christopher will ensure the effective implementation of CSG’s business strategy. In April, CSG was awarded a $1.3 million contract to provide program management services for the Norwalk Board of Education’s five-year school facilities master plan, which includes over $170 million in new construction and facility renovations. The Diversity Construction Group Foundation (DGCF) is now accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors. DCGF is a 501(c)(3) established in 2016.  The Foundation was created for charitable purposes, primarily for providing education scholarships to high school seniors.  The DCGF is focused on the issue of racial and gender capacity in the Construction industry.  Our goal is to provide encouragement and financial assistance to high school students that wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree in a major that will lead to a career in the field of Construction. 

Please share our scholarship information and application with your friends,  co-workers, staff members, and anyone working in the design and construction industry that may know of someone in need. Our deadline for applications is June 1, 2017.

THE NATIONAL ACADEMY of Construction (NAC) has elected Raymond R. Oneglia, Executive Vice Chairman, O&G Industries, Inc., as a member of its 2016 class, according to a press release.  He was inducted Oct. 20 at the NAC Annual Meeting in Napa, CA. The 2016 class includes 30 inductees. Three hundred industry leaders were considered for NAC’s rigorous nomination and election process.


The final phase of the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University Biotech Accelerator (Upstate Biotech), a LEED® Silver designed project by The S/L/A/M Collaborative (SLAM) is complete. In addition to wet- and dry-lab space, a shared equipment wet-lab and shared equipment public areas, the 60,000-square-foot facility now features the Upstate MIND—a Medical Innovation and Novel Discovery Center— which opened on September 1 on the 3rd floor of the Accelerator.  Read more here...
