Creating Effective Communication Strategies

Blended Learning Session

What is "Blended Learning"?  Blended learning sessions (also known as hybrid or mixed-mode courses) are classes where a portion of the traditional face-to-face instruction is replaced by web-based online learning. This allows the participant to work through most of the training at their own pace, and according to their own schedule.

 

Description of this Session

This workshop will help project managers assess their project communication needs, plan for meeting those needs, and effectively communicate project status and forecasts throughout the project life-cycle. 

 

PROJECT MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT

This workshop is a requirement in CI's Project Management Certificate program.


Learning Objectives 

  • Learn how Project Communication Management fits within the Project Management body of knowledge and the nine knowledge areas.
  • Learn how to describe and discuss the importance of identifying key stakeholders and their potential impact on project success.
  • Demonstrate and illustrate the process of defining a communication approach and how to make relevant information available to all stakeholders.
  • Learn to identify key stakeholder expectations and the process of managing those expectations.
  • Learn to evaluate and explain the key benefits of successful project reporting

Instructor Bio

Michael Schrier, Director of Design and STEM Projects, University of CT Planning Architecture

Michael Schrier is a registered architect with a B.A. Degree from McGill University and a Masters of Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. Michael also earned an M.B.A. from Fordham University.

He has had extensive experience in the design and construction of medical and institutional buildings, while in private practice in the State of New York and Connecticut, and as site director for design and construction for New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.

At Yale School of Medicine Facilities Planning and Construction, he oversees a staff of project managers that implement projects over two campuses.  He also developed the project management certificate curriculum at the University of Hartford’s Construction Institute, and teaches the Principles of Project Management and Scope Management classes.


Training Details and Schedule

Workshop will consist of an online module with exercises and one live instructor session.  Participants should plan to spend approximately 90-120 minutes to complete the online training prior to the live instructor session.  

  • Online training opens up on September 25, 2019.  Online training and exercises need to be completed by October 1, 2019.

  • Live instructor session to take place on October 1, 2019 in Hartford - start time 8:30 A.M.  Session length will be 2-3 hours. In-person participation is preferred, but webinar access is available for those who are remotely located.  (If you will need to participate via WEBINAR, please note that in the comments section when registering, or email ckullstroem@construction.org).

Continuing Educational Credit

Construction Institute Project Management workshops are applicable towards prerequisite hours in PMI®'s Project Management Professionals (PMP®) program.  


Construction Institute is an AIA Registered Provider and a CCM Recertification Point Provider. Course attendees are eligible to receive 0.4 Continuing Education Units, 4 CCM Renewal Points, and/or 4 AIA Continuing Education Learning Units, verified through certificates of attendance, which are sent to participants after completion of workshop and assessment. Those wishing to receive AIA Continuing Education Learning Units and/or CCM Renewal Points should check in at the sign-in desk and fill out the appropriate attendance form(s) to receive credit.
