The Construction Institute in collaboration with the CT Green Building Council is pleased to offer a special educational workshop on LEED Fundamentals. This workshop will provide an introduction to green buildings and includes an overview of the U.S. Green Building Council and LEED rating systems. CEUs: Course attendees are eligible to receive 0.4 Continuing Education Units or 4 AIA Continuing Education Learning Units.

LEED Fundamentals

Offered in collaboration with the Construction Institute and CT Green Building Council

Description

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a collection of voluntary rating systems that assist project team members with the identification, implementation and measurement of green building and neighborhood design, construction, operations and maintenance. Using these market-driven tools that encourage green building practices, project teams can design and build high performance, healthier and environmentally responsible projects.


The Construction Institute in collaboration with the CT Green Building Council is pleased to offer a special educational workshop on LEED Fundamentals. This workshop will provide an introduction to green buildings and includes an overview of the U.S. Green Building Council and LEED rating systems. Participants will gain an introductory understanding of sustainability basics, LEED principles, and other key components of sustainable building practices.  An overview of the LEED categories and their prerequisites and credits will be provided, as well as the roles of project team members. LEED is a team effort..

There will be time for participant Q&A after each topic.

 

Learning Objectives 

  • Introduction to the US Green Building Council and the range of available LEED rating systems.
  • Understand basic LEED concepts and principles.
  • Overview of each LEED Credit Category: Integrative Process, Location and Transportation (LT), Sustainable Sites (SS), Water Efficiency (WE), Energy & Atmosphere (EA), Materials and Resources (MR), Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ),
    Innovation (IN) and Regional Priority (RP). 
  • Learn about LEED as a team process and the roles each member plays for a successful LEED project.


Instructor Bio

Blake Jackson, AIA, LEED/WELL Faculty, Sustainability Design Leader, Associate, Stantec

Blake Jackson, AIA, is an Associate and Sustainable Design Leader for Stantec Boston. He serves as a company-wide resource for projects where sustainability, wellness, and resiliency are a primary focus. He has over 15 years’ experience in retail, hospitality, higher-ed, commercial, workplace, labs, healthcare, and multifamily. Blake obtained his B.Arch. from Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, GA and his M.Arch. in Sustainable Environmental Design from the Architectural Association Graduate School in London, UK. He is a prolific author and speaker, serves as VP of Advocacy with the Boston Society of Architects, and was named a BD+C Magazine 40 Under 40 in 2015.

Continuing Educational Credit

  • Construction Institute is an AIA Registered Provider. Course attendees are eligible to receive 0.4 Continuing Education Units and/or 4 AIA Continuing Education Learning Units, verified through certificates of attendance, which are given to participants.

  • Course attendees wishing to receive AIA Continuing Education Learning Units should check in at the sign-in desk and fill out the appropriate attendance form(s) to receive credit.

  • LEED general credits can be self-reported to the GBCI.
