Introduction to Insuring Construction Projects

Description

This workshop will provide an overview of the most common insurance used for construction projects, including commercial general liability, builder’s risk, and professional liability. The workshop will provide basic guidance on what is typically required in project risk management, and explain why it is important to make insurance an integral part of your project planning. 

 

Learning Objectives

  • Familiarize yourself with insurance terminology applicable to construction projects.
  • Gain understanding of different types of insurance, how they operate, and what risks they cover.
  • Learn about additional insured coverage and its pitfalls if not used properly.
  • Explore what insurance you should require from or provide for your construction business partners

Stella Szantova Giordano, Attorney, Saxe Doernberger & Vita, P.C.

 

Stella Szantova Giordano is passionate about finding solutions for her clients, and to secure the best possible outcome for them. She assists clients with a variety of coverage issues and advises on risk transfer strategies. She is a member of the firm’s Cyber Coverage practice group, with a particular focus on US-EU data transfer issues.


While attending law school, Stella served on the Quinnipiac Law Review. She also externed at Henkel, an international consumer goods manufacturer, drafting and negotiating procurement contracts. There, she learned how important proper insurance coverage is for a business, and how to properly shift risk from the clients to vendors.

 

In 2015, Stella was the vice-chair of the Community Involvement committee of HYPE (Hartford Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs) where she organized hands-on volunteer and community service events. She was also a member of HYPE’s Executive Committee. She lives in Ridgefield, CT with her husband; loves traveling, cooking, and theater; speaks Slovakian, Czech, Russian, German, and recently started learning Spanish.

Continuing Educational Credit

Construction Institute is an AIA Registered Provider and a CCM Recertification Point Provider.  

 

Course attendees are eligible to receive 0.1 Continuing Education Units, CCM Renewal Point, and/or 1 AIA Continuing Education Learning Unit, verified through certificates of attendance, which are sent to participants after completion of workshop and assessment.

 

Course attendees wishing to receive AIA Continuing Education Learning Units and/or CCM Renewal Points should check in at the sign-in desk and fill out the appropriate attendance form(s) to receive credit.
