Green Building Pays Back
Sustainable design or green building is a collaborative and integrated approach to designing, engineering, and constructing buildings to be environmentally responsible, resource efficient, and healthful. To most people, that sounds great and a lot like Yankee ingenuity. But the most frequently asked question is, "How much will it cost?" While that's a fair question, the better question is, "What's the best investment?" More Green >

Why High Performance Buildings?
You've seen articles about private companies and public entities deciding to build green. The current paradigm shift realizes that efficiency strategies are investments in the future of our buildings and communities. High performance buildings are built with the best economic and environmental life-cycle value in mind. The needs of the occupants, the business, and our natural resources are taken into consideration collectively to create a facility that uses energy wisely, protects the environment and contributes to the financial performance of the building owner.

F O C U S : CI Turns Attention to Construction Economy -
Dedicates Remaining Major Programs to Economic Issues

Until recently, the construction industry has enjoyed an extended period of high demand and prosperity, and now many industry principals find themselves unprepared for this economic uncertainty and construction recession.

The Construction Institute is confident that the current economic climate presents new opportunities to embrace change and develop innovative business strategies. Those who do so will emerge as the new industry leaders.

In order to provide its members with the information necessary to take advantage of the opportunities ahead, the Institute will devote its three remaining educational programs to the Design and Construction economy. Industry experts, owners and leading economists from top industry publications will provide updates on the A/E/C economy and share their latest data and forecasts on important issues.

Committee Spotlight: Board of Advisors
The Board of Advisors is a vehicle for bringing together participants from all segments of the construction industry. The purpose is to discuss, examine, and debate the most timely and significant issues facing the industry and to periodically review the status and operations of the Construction Institute at the University of Hartford. The BOA is not a decision-making body, but rather an advisory group that makes recommendations to the Institute's Board of Directors.
