Technology Committee

Published Wed, Feb 4, 2009

The mission of the Construction Institute's Technology Committee is to support the information technology needs of the Institute and its members and to serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas and information on the latest practices, issues and problems concerning the application and use of technology in construction, operations, maintenance and facilities management.

The Technology Committee is the Institute's only multi-association committee. In conjunction with the Associated General Contractors of Connecticut (AGC), it has organized and hosted many programs focusing on technical advances in order to assist the members in being more efficient, learning about cutting edge technology during the development stage, and understanding and using technology as it enters the mainstream.

The committee is chaired by Lewis Finkel, president of Professional Construction Services, Inc., and John Farnham, executive director of AGC of CT, serves on the committee. It draws on the expertise of the members of the Institute and AGC to develop educational programs and provide expertise in the areas most needed by general membership of the two organizations.

In the past few years, programs have included project collaboration, BIM, document management, estimating technology, security (Bradley Airport, ESPN and FBI), LEED, and interoperability.

The Technology Committee has worked closely with the administrative staff on the formulation and enhancement of the features of the Construction Institute website and will be involved in future changes. The committee is also involved in the use of technology to disseminate information to members and non members by making available the programs and presentations available on the website.

In the future, Lew Finkel and the Committee envision an enhanced CI website, which will serve as a delivery system for programs and presentations offering expanded services including archived programs and workshops, as well as audio and video streaming.

The Technology Committee is currently seeking new representatives. If you would like to be a part of this exciting group please contact Lew at 203-332-2730 or lfinkel@proconstserv.com.
