Fairfield Expansion

Fairfield County Initiative begins 2nd Full Year of Programs and Events

It is that time of year … and therefore I am writing to invite you once again to our 2nd Annual Fairfield County Oktoberfest event on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at The Sono Brewhouse in South Norwalk.  Last year’s Oktoberfest event was a tremendous success and on behalf of the Institute’s Fairfield County Task Force (FCTF), I thank everyone who contributed or participated in the event.  Over 140 CI members and their guests shared an enjoyable evening of seasonal fare, invaluable networking, and an opportunity to preview the many programs and events planned as we launched into Fairfield County.

Since the FCTF’s first meeting in November 2009, we continue to regularly meet to strategize on how we can expand upon our mission to bring the superb programs, workshops and networking events into Fairfield County.  Of course, our major goal is to increase our membership in this region by focusing our efforts in reducing the time and travel for many of us who want to attend these events.  Attaining new members (and retaining existing ones) is a key result of bringing events closer to where we work and live.

What have we done so far?  In two years, Fairfield County has hosted the CI Annual I-95 Regional Construction Forecast, a market strategy panel discussion on the current economy, two breakfast events on technology and business development, an Owners Forum, and two professional development workshops.  In addition, the Task Force hosted a Spring Social event at Dolce Norwalk, and co-organized a think-tank panel discussion with the New York Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS-NY).  Yes, we have been busy!

Where are we headed?  Well, many of the same events mentioned above have now found a permanent ‘home’ in Fairfield County.  In addition, the Construction Institute will provide several continuing education opportunities to design and construction professionals in Fairfield County.  As recently posted and advertised, several of the same half-day workshops offered in Hartford will be located anywhere from Stratford to Stamford.  Some of the topics over the next few months include risk management, facilities construction and project management, estimating, building and energy codes, and assembling RFP documents.  For more details, call (860) 768-5619, or visit the CI website under “Education”.

So, on behalf of the Construction Institute and the FCTF, I hope you will join me in attending, and supporting, this kick off to the 2011-2012 CI season at our 2nd Oktoberfest event.  I look forward to seeing you there with an evening of good food, drink, networking … and a preview of what the FCTF has planned for the upcoming year.

Sincerely,

George J. Perham, AIA, IIDA
