Creating Effective Communication Strategies

Blended Learning Session

What is "Blended Learning"?  Blended learning sessions (also known as hybrid or mixed-mode courses) are classes where a portion of the traditional face-to-face instruction is replaced by web-based online learning. This allows the participant to work through most of the training at their own pace, and according to their own schedule.

 

Description of this Session

This workshop will help project managers assess their project communication needs, plan for meeting those needs, and effectively communicate project status and forecasts throughout the project life-cycle. 

 

PROJECT MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT

This workshop is the 2nd of 6 workshops required for CI's Project Management Certificate program.

 

Learning Objectives 

  • Learn how Project Communication Management fits within the Project Management body of knowledge and the nine knowledge areas.
  • Learn how to describe and discuss the importance of identifying key stakeholders and their potential impact on project success.
  • Demonstrate and illustrate the process of defining a communication approach and how to make relevant information available to all stakeholders.
  • Learn to identify key stakeholder expectations and the process of managing those expectations.
  • Learn to evaluate and explain the key benefits of successful project reporting

Instructor Bio

 
Nicholas Macy CCM, PMP, Director, Planning and Construction, University of Hartford 

Nicholas Macy is the Director, Planning & Construction for the University of Hartford. He brings 20 years of experience in design and construction delivering large capital projects for public/private owners as a results-driven project management professional and team-builder, on projects ranging in value up to $125M, over a wide variety of renovation/new construction in educational facilities (Higher Education & K-12).

 

Training Details and Schedule

Workshop will consist of an online module with exercises and one live instructor session.  Participants should plan to spend approximately 90-120 minutes to complete the online training prior to the live instructor session.  

  • Online training opens up on September 27, 2017 at NOON.  Online training and exercises need to be completed by October 12, 2017 at NOON.

  • Live instructor session to take place on October 13, 2017 in Hartford - start time 9:00 A.M.  Session length will be 2-3 hours. In-person participation is preferred, but webinar access is available for those who are remotely located.  (If you will need to participate via WEBINAR, please note that in the comments section when registering, or email leldredge@construction.org).

 

Participants will need

  • To set up a Microsoft Office Mix account (this is free and can be set up using an existing Microsoft or Google email account, Facebook account or work email account).  Instructions will be provided.

  • Access to a device: Office Mix supports the latest version of all major browsers (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and Safari) on desktops, laptops, Windows tablets and Apple® Macintosh®  computers.

Continuing Educational Credit

Construction Institute is an AIA Registered Provider and a CCM Recertification Point Provider.  

 

Course attendees are eligible to receive 0.4 Continuing Education Units, 4 CCM Renewal Points, and/or 4 AIA Continuing Education Learning Units, verified through certificates of attendance, which are sent to participants after completion of workshop and assessment.

 

Course attendees wishing to receive AIA Continuing Education Learning Units and/or CCM Renewal Points should check in at the sign-in desk and fill out the appropriate attendance form(s) to receive credit.
